Support and Resources

Supportive Measures provide support to the Complainant or Respondent during the complaint or informal resolution process.  

Supportive Measures are individualized services offered to the Complainant or Respondent, as appropriate, when reasonably available, not for punitive or disciplinary reasons, and without fee or charge, regardless of whether a Complaint is filed. Supportive Measures are designed to restore or preserve equal access to CSU education programs, activities or the workplace without unreasonably burdening the other Party, including to protect the safety of all Parties or the educational or work environment.  

The Title IX Coordinator/DHR Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the effective implementation of Supportive Measures. Supportive Measures will remain confidential to the greatest extent possible.

The SAFE Place  

The Safe Place provides free and confidential support services to survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking and sexual harassment. Office for Civil Rights and Title IX (OCRTIX) 

OCRTIX provides support and resolution options for individuals impacted by behavior that may violate the CSU Non-Discrimination Policy, which prohibits sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, domestic and dating violence and stalking. This Policy also prohibits discrimination and harassment based on protected status. OCRTIX is located in Suite 205 in the Student Services Building. Individuals can make a report to OCRTIX by filling out an incident report form, by calling (415) 338-3892, or by emailing ocrtitleix@sfsu.edu

Campus SafeWalk 

The SafeWalk service ensures that members of our community do not have to walk alone. SafeWalk services are provided to all on-campus buildings, attached residential properties and parking lots. SafeWalks are also provided to off-campus residential properties. This service is facilitated by the Division of Campus Safety and can be requested by phone 24/7 by calling (415) 338-7200 (then press 0). 

Counseling and Psychological Resources (CAPS)  

CAPS is a confidential on-campus resource that offers an array of different counseling options (i.e. crisis counseling, individual brief counseling, counseling consultations, groups counseling and other workshops). CAPS is located on the 3rd floor of the Gator Student Health Center. You can make an appointment or find out more about current services by emailing caps@sfsu.edu or by calling (415) 338-2208. 

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) 

EAP is a confidential and free employee resource at SFSU. Our EAP partner, LifeMatters, offers a variety of services including counseling, financial consulting, legal consulting and other work/life resources and referrals. Simply go to mylifematters.com and enter sfsu as the company password or call 1-800-367-7474. 

San Francisco Women Against Rape (SFWAR) 

SFWAR provides resources, support, advocacy and education to strengthen the work of all individuals and communities in San Francisco that are responding to, healing from, and struggling to end sexual violence. SFWAR operates a 24-hour hotline that can be reached by calling (415) 647-7273. Bay Area Women Against Rape (BAWAR) 

BAWAR also offers experienced counseling and advocacy 24-hours per day, in English and Spanish. BAWAR operates a 24-hour hotline that can be reached by calling (510) 800-4247. You can also contact BAWAR’s general business office by calling (510) 430-1298 or by emailing bawar@bawar.org

Cooperative Restraining Order Clinic (CROC) 

CROC is a non-profit legal services agency in San Francisco, CA. CROC is an off-campus resource that offers free legal advice and representation for navigating the criminal legal systems and/or campus-based Title IX proceedings. Black Women Revolt Against Domestic Violence (BWRADV) 

BWRADV is a community-based organization committed to supporting Black women and survivors of domestic violence through culturally specific advocacy, education and healing. Centering the experiences of Black women, the organization offers resources, outreach and direct support aimed at ending cycles of abuse and empowering survivors to reclaim safety, dignity and self-determination. The BWRADV Crisis Line is available Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m. at 1-888-260-1498 (ext. 1). 

W.O.M.A.N., Inc. 

Women Organized to Make Abuse Nonexistent, Inc. (W.O.M.A.N., Inc.) is a multi-service agency serving survivors of domestic violence in San Francisco and the larger Bay Area. Their services include a 24-hour multilingual support line, multilingual peer support groups, community education initiatives, referrals to local resources, volunteer training, and advocacy for survivors’ rights and well-being. The W.O.M.A.N., Inc. 24-hour support line is available at (877) 384-3578. 

GLIDE Foundation - Women's Center 

This resource provides a safe, supportive space for women and nonbinary individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty or trauma. Offering essential services such as meals, support groups, crisis intervention and case management, the Women’s Center focuses on healing, empowerment and community. Riley Center 

The Riley Center provides support for survivors of domestic violence in San Francisco. Offering emergency shelter, transitional housing, individual counseling, legal advocacy and a 24-hour crisis line, the Riley Center creates a safe and empowering environment for individuals and families seeking to heal and rebuild their lives. SF District Attorney Victim Services 

The Victim Services Division (VSD) of the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office strives to make the criminal justice system humane and accessible by providing support and assistance to victims and their families in the aftermath of a crime, during criminal prosecution and after a verdict has been reached.  

 Bay Area Legal Aid 

Bay Legal offers comprehensive, free legal assistance to survivors of domestic violence across Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. This vital resource ensures timely access to protective orders, custody and support help, immigration advocacy, and ongoing education—helping survivors stop abuse and build safer futures. CA Victims Resource Center 

The California Victims Resource Center is dedicated to helping victims across the State of California find necessary resources and learn about their rights in the criminal justice system. 

CA Victim Compensation Board 

CalVCB administers the Victim Compensation Program, which provides reimbursement for crime-related expenses to victims who suffer physical injury or the threat of physical injury as a result of a violent crime. CalVCB also administers the Restitution Recovery Program, the Good Samaritan Program and the Missing Children Reward Program. 

The State Bar of California Free Legal Help 

The State Bar funds legal aid organizations throughout the state that provide legal services to Californians who have low and moderate incomes. These organizations focus on your issues, from custody and family law to disability rights and veterans’ benefits.

Callers to the National Domestic Violence Hotline can expect highly trained experienced advocates to offer compassionate support, crisis intervention information and referral services in over 170 languages.  

National Suicide and Crisis Life Line

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, across the United States. 9-8-8 is available via call or text, and online chat. 

The University’s procedures are administrative in nature and are separate and distinct from criminal (and civil) legal systems. Pursuing resolution through the University’s procedures does not preclude someone from pursuing legal action now or in the future.
